2005 Daytime Emmys: Female Supporting

I really thought this would be the most difficult category to pick. However, I have seen the tapes and now there is such a clear-cut winner, that I can't imagine my pick is that far off from the actual voters. The reason: it is all in what you pick for your reels. It can make or break you (ask Michelle Stafford) and this year it quickly culled some of the competition.

Emmy Reels:
Tracey Bregman (Lauren, Y&R) - Michael and Lauren play strip word association; Lauren accepts Michael's proposal.

Crystal Chappell (Olivia, GL) - A gun-toting Olivia is taunted by Gus, who wants her to confess to Philip's murder; Olivia copes, as Bill walks out on her.

Jennifer Ferrin (Jennifer, ATWT) - Jen reacts to the death of her baby; Jen tries to keep Dusty from realizing she is on drugs.

Renee Elise Goldsberry (Evangeline, OLTL) - Evangeline ends things with John; Evangeline reflects on her relationship with John, as her portrayer sings.

Gina Tognoni (Dinah, GL) - Dinah tells Edmund that she lost the baby and is comforted by Jonathan; Dinah leaves a drunken message for Mallet, which leads to them making love.

Who should win: Crystal Chappell
Who will win: Crystal Chappell

Oh my gosh, what was Tracy Bergman thinking when she picked the "strip word association" episode? It was cute and all, but hardly showing her talents. Why not pick any of the Sheila drama that ended the year?
Renee Elise Goldsberry didn't show much range in her stuff, which is too bad since I really like her character. And enough with the singing (that goes for all soap stars—are you listening Jack Wagner?!)!

Who could win: Gina Tognoni or Jennifer Ferrin
I thought both of these daytime divas had a chance before I saw their reels and really would make this the toughest race. Jennifer picked some good stuff and could pull it off, however Crystal Chappell's stuff is just so strong. And, I can't help but secretly pull for Gina.
